Springtime Brunch in Chatham Square

Springtime Brunch in Chatham Square

Springtime Brunch in Chatham Square

The transition from the grey cozy days of winter into vibrant verdant hues of spring is always exhilarating.  The days lengthen and the natural world slowly begins to hustle and bustle.  The daffodils, the red buds, the mock orange and other flowering trees, the azaleas, the jasmine, all the flowers invite us all outside celebrate the greening and blooming of the vegetation. It beckons us to brunch! To set the table outdoors under the live oaks and blue bird skies and serve an elegantly easy spread.

When the amazing Cyreia Sandlin invited us on WTOC Morning Break ( Watch the Video Here) to style a Spring Mother’s Day Brunch Tablescape, we could not have been more excited.  We think Cyreia is just the bee’s knees and we adore working with her!  Thank you Cyreia! We decided that setting the table in Chatham Square seemed the natural thing to do, as we all live nearby and it is a hidden gem of a square, slightly off the path of tourists.

One of our favorite things to do in our spare time is to scour estate sales, thrift stores, auctions, and online for hidden gems of past times that are just waiting to be used in a new setting and show off their beauty again.  Although, we call it “Junking” it is really treasure hunting, upcycling at it’s most elegant. While scrolling through vintage china on eBay, we came across this beautiful set of Spode Dinner Plates that we just had to have. The pattern is Chelsea Garden and we adore the mustard gold rimmed scalloped edges and the whimsical dainty wild flowers that dance around the rim of the plate. These plates would be the main attraction from which the rest of the tablescape would evolve.  Elegant and Bold with a Whimsical Flair.

For the centerpiece, we called on a talented friend, Andrea Harper of Owner and Lead Stylist of Gray Harper Florals. (Side Note, If you are looking for a floral and event stylist for your wedding or event, Andrea is your girl. Her designs and creativity never ceases to amaze me.)  I told her I wanted an arrangement a bit on the bold side with pops of orange, blue, purple and forest green to foil the dainty features of the Spode Dinner Plates.  She worked her magic and created this piece of floral perfection.  Featuring Fritillaria imperialis (Royal Crown Flower), Solomon’s Seal, Tulips, Ranunculus, and Hyacinth.

To complete the look and the place settings, we used our Hostess Provisions Aubergine Hair on Hide on Sycamore Leather Chargers and matching Coasters and Aubergine Leather Napkin Rings with a set of my grandmother’s lace napkins and tablecloth . Fortessa Arezzo Flatware in Brushed Gold and La Rochere Artois Highball Glasses from Pottery Barn.

Our Leather Chargers, Napkin Rings and Coasters are made for us by the talented Satchelettes of Satchel in Savannah, Georgia. The Aubergine Hair on Hide on Sycamore Leather Chargers and Coasters are reversible, allowing you to use these sophisticated and verstiale pieces in many different ways. See how the place setting changes when we flip the chargers and use the Sycamore Leather side in the tablescape.
